New free two song single (EP) from "Wayssst" of Ireland duo; Nouveaunoise. Jazzy summer noise pop akin to sweet blissful heights The Go Team and Pause era Fourtet. Terrible interview below (Silly presenters) plus live performance of Pyschasonic on Panaka EP.

Three piece from London throw down some spell bounding house grooves over sultry soprano vocals. Take from Imagination's debut LP "Body Talk" (1981).

From the totally rad folks at Everything Is Terrible!. A collection of excellent clips of "Punks" from mainly 80s movies.

Karen Dalton
Here's some Karen Dalton film footage I hadn't seen before. It's great to she her in action, Karen was one of the truly powerful and honest voices from the late 60's. early 70's American folk scene. I first heard of her through the rousing cover The Drones did of "Are You Leaving For The Country". I picked up her "In My Own Time" album soon after which is well worth seeking out.
Another great vid after the jump.

Pink Flamingos At The Screen Tomorrow Night
I had the (un)pleasure of seeing Pink Flamingos for the time earlier in the year, on a big projected screen in my lady friend house. John Water's 72' debut is trashy, crass and still surprisingly shocking 38 years on. As a part of their "Screen Classics Series", the Screen Cinema on D'Olier Street are showing Pink Flamingos tomorrow night. Don't be out "bee hived" by fellow trash dilettante's at the screening, handbags & glad rags are essential.
A poor quality clip for the "Steak Steeling" scene below.

Cher - Gypsys Tramps And Thieves
The first single from Cher's 1971 self-titled album Cher, which was later renamed and re-released as Gypsys Tramps And Thieves after the success of the single. One of pops finist hits and they certainly don't write them like that anymore.

Pictureplane - Gothstar
At Foggy Notions's Foggy Jam a couple of week back, for me HEALTH's cover of Pictureplane's "Gothstar" was easily the highlight of the night (although I did only catch the last three bands). "Gothstar" contains a neat Fleetwood Mac sample which is cut and cropped, tumbles drunkenly along giving the song an almost exhausted energy, sun stroked and buzzy. Is and along with the accompanied vhs alchemy ritual video, it's hard not to fall for it's charms.
I included a vinyl rip of Pictureplane's remix of HEALTH's "Die Slow" song at 33rpm in a Children Under Hoof Mixtape here, which sounds the "right" speed to these humble ears anyways.

I Miss Renting Videos
This trailer was at the start of a lot of Tartan Video's releases in the mid 90s. I most have watched it over hundred times and it single handedly got me into African music with Zimbabwean Bhundu Boys song "My Foolish Heart" accompanying it. Tartan went bust in 2008 but during their twenty four years they certainly opened my eyes to some of the best films, world cinema had to offer.
"My Foolish Heart" was included in the January Blues Mixtape from many moons ago.

Children Under Hoof - Skinny Wolves Mix
A mix I made for Skinny Wolves's ongoing mix series compiled by bands that are/ have played at their shows. I asked the four other members of Children Under Hoof to give me three songs each that reflected what they think influences their input into the Hoof's "sound". I spent Saturday mixing them together with some film and TV clips, slowed down vinyl rips and songs that get me all hot and bothered.

If you havent been paying attention to Holly McGowan aka Ilex's soundcloud, here are four great songs she culled together for the wonderful folks over at Second Square to None. An Indication: Something Is Present
Here is a video of "An Indication: Something Is Present" a shadow puppet play that was a collaboration project between artists Ceara Martyn and Anna Davies. Wild Nothings
Jack Tatum aka Wild Nothings as made the album of summer 2010; Gemini. This twelve track LP is full of lush Robin Guthrie guitar dream pop on top of rockin' Flock Of Seagulls's sheer catchyness. Its hard not to be upbeat and freewheelin' in it's presences. The album is more than just homage to the pastel shoegazing forefathers of the 80s, JackTatum has carved out bewitching and endearing song after song that rewards with every repeat spin.
The video for album opener "Live In Dreams" with its datomoshed film fragments of past youth merges with the song beautifully. It's certainly up there with Xui Xui's video for best pop promo Ive seen so far this year.

Dirty Beaches
Montreal's Alex Zhang Hungtai aka Dirty Beaches has been sending me in a daze recently. Eerie soundings like Colder's weirdo younger brother who only listens to B/Film's night surfing anthem "Night Running" on repeat. Dirty Beaches certain help fill void till both said artists release something new (Although Im not holding my breathe for B/Film). Night cycle cinematic loops unpinned by Alan Vega-esque ghostly do wop vocals which groove over the course of his six song enchanting Self Titled Ep. With a extensive back catalog already, include two great 7"s, two releases on my favourite label "Night People", the already mentioned S/T Ep and a full length album "Night City". I (You) have a lot of material to get obsessed over.
Buy both "True Blue" and "Golden Desert Sun" 7"s here.

Xui Xui Do It Again
This lucid lustmord nightmare is the most unsettling video I've seen since Harmony and Billy got together. Xui Xui clearly have the nack for a good pop promo. "House Sparrow" is taken from their least album "Dear God, I hate Myself", which is easily one of my favouite releases this year and their most accessible album to date.

Pens - High In The Cinema
Road Records is closing, soon to be gone for good. So where do I go now? In ever aspect other than stock Road excelled, surpassing every other in our wee capital. I felt like a vulture in there on monday, picking at the bones of a once health beast. It will be a sad day, come Saturday when the shutters are down for good. Well they have given me one more piece of rockus joy in the form of "LDN" three piece Pens and their debut album "Hey Friend! What You Doing". I would suspect like some of you, I first heard of Pens purely because Amelia from the band drew this righteous tape cover and they form of garage rock isn't a million miles away from Wavves either. Its a little more playful with their casio tones and girl shout shout harmonies but in parts they are L7 mean and certainly not as pop catchy as Williams mini epics. Like all good things their end came and passed, playing their last gig back in June. This Saturday, 24th of July, like Pens, Road too will be over before their time.

Rhino Magic - Home With You
Fuzzed up laments from the wilds of Wexford. Rhino Magic has made a six song mini album full of joyous distorted pastel pop. It's the soundtrack to a found hi8 video of a 10th birthday party. Fizzing coke and tayto burps, never ending hazy adventures in roaming sun drenched fields till "the mother" calls everyone in for cake cutting and more coke. Like No Monster Club, Hipster Youth and Squarehead, Rhino Magic wears his lofi-pop heart on his sleeve. Is this our summer of Irish noise pop love?

These Happenings Are Happening Tomorrow
Lucky Dragons's "Dream Island Laughing Language" LP was one of the best albums of 08. Copy and paste tribal gamalen magic from start to finish. His interactive live show are pretty intense, I had an outer body experience at his last one, (a house show after he played earlier supporting Dirty Projectors), he passes out touch sensitive tentacles and shaman rain sticks in to the audience for them to make the music, ethereal chakra drones and clicks ebbing me up and up till I opened my eyes and saw two lads hitting each other in their heads with the sticks; oh well.
In support for the night is lucky old me (School Tour) and hurdy gurdy druid folk troupe "Woven Skulls".
