A Sunny Day In Glasgow + Suburban Lawns

Photobucket
They are playing Whelans in a months time. Our Friend MP3 Hugger
is giving away tickets for the show also he's got a new download compilation
called Indiecater No. One out which is full of musically goodness and as he
says "Income from the sale of the album will go directly back to the artists
involved". Which Is Nice.

Town And Out Mixtape

Photobucket
Vagabond music for vagabond days.

01 My Most Meaningful Relationships Are With Dead People - The Late Cord
Taken from their one and only EP.
02 Shift - Grizzly Bear

03 Lookout! - Entrance
I cant get enough of this song, sounds like a Sid Barrnet meltdown.
04 Into It - Ring
First heard this top notch track on BBC6's Freakzone. It was the first time "tuning in" after Young Roddy sent me a link and we were on a good and heady mixture. This song locked me into a trance, the vocals  reminded me of some Madchester band doing a Jethro Tull esque song. The next morn I looked Ring up. Turns out the Manchester and Norwegian accent are very similar.  I picked up his excellent album for 5 euros here.
05 Girls Of Summer (Live) - Arab Strap
Taken from Mad Of Sadness, still my favourite Arab Strap album and probably favourite live album ever. No one says "fuck" quite like Aidan Moffat.
06 Eyes - Wide - Si Schroeder
Highlight of last year's Electric Picnic.
07 Bontempi Rain Effect - Ellis Island Sound
A chance hearing of their first album, lead me to get all their albums. I still haven't read anything about
them in any music mags or music site or some unknown reason.
08 Golden - High Places
Missed them by a few minutes recently, to busy drinking Guinness Special Export Stout on a stoop of a dilapidated warehouse. Geez Louise I could drink them all day.

09 Woman Is The Nigger Of The World - Sports
No not a John Lennon cover, but Indiana's own Sports doing what Chuck D would be proud of; "Tell it like it is".
10 August - Catcall

Catcall - August (Music Video) from Moop Jaw on Vimeo.

11 Laminate Factory - Emperor X
Taken from his Tectonic Membrane/Thin Strip on an Edgeless Platform album. Another guy that never get
mentions anyway. This album is pretty stellar to, there is another track of his on 8Bit Bliss Mixtape.
12 Jetta's Palace - The Jimmy Cake
Ireland's finest return with their best work since their debut.
13 Blink - Sonic Youth
The Campfire Section taken from the rather dull The Destroyed Room B-sides and rarities but this song was
reason enough to get it.
14 Twilight Furniture - This Heat
My favourite This Heat track.
15 Raven - Nalle
More bewitching music this time from Scotland. Eerie isn't strong enough word.
16 Wino - Cast King
R.I.P.
17 Cattle Call -Tex Owens
Quite dirty vinyl rip that hisses and crackles but for some reason I don't want to bother find a cleaner version. It adds more magic to this 56' ditty. I first hear this on Gus Van Sant's My Private Idaho.
18 Kiss Before The Fall - H T R K
Pronounced HATE ROCK,
H T R K are like the mean, older cousin of the sickly easy Glasvagas.
19 Permanent Smile - Smog
Last track of the amazing " Dongs of Sevotion", gorgeously understated, Callahan knows went to reduce
tracks to their core.

Thats it, I hope you like it as much as I do.

Videohippos Tonight, Crawdaddy

Photobucket
"Unbeast The Leash" is my second favourite album of last
year, second only to fellow Baltamore noise merchant,
"Sonic Warrior" Dan Deacon. Every song is an instant classic
and "Bear Fight" is my favourite song of last year, ok Bill
Callahen's "Diamond Dancer" is defo up they to. Here is the
first two songs of the record, hopefuly they will have some
vinyl at the show tonight, their Irish debut in crawdaddy,
midnight start I think. Again apologies to all the chin wank
indy kids if/when my fralling limbs hit. But fuck personal space,
fuzzed up punk casio rock rule ok.
And as the poster reads, Cork tomorrow, no one goes to
gigs in cork but it will still be way better that the shitty dublin
audiences.

Solid Show On Thursday

Poster 26 june 08
"Thread Pulls, E+S=B, Avanti Maria! and Patrick Kelleher
represent the innovative and fun musical youth of
contemporary Dublin. E+S=B and Avanti Maria! draw
heavily on methods of improvisation, with bass heavy
styles, vocal rhythms and drumbeats galore!
Thread Pulls"..."indulges in repetition and trance
like vocal loops. Patrick Kelleher and his accompanying band,
The Sick Fucks, are an upbeat circus-act extraordinaire
with multiple keyboards, accordions and mischief.

A night for swashbuckling and freaky moves for sure!"

Seven Songs Blog Chain

Photobucket
"List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre,
whether they have words, or even if they're not any good, but they
must be songs you're really enjoying now, shaping your spring. Post
these instructions in your blog along with your 7 songs. Then tag 7
other people to see what they're listening to."
Well the lovely folks over at ljudlandskap have kindly added me to this,
so here seven songs that I've been slowly obsessing about. I didnt
change the album names or track numbers, but preferable you would
played in the order printed.

You Injured Me - HTRK
I first heard of this aussie band when they were suppose to play with
Liars back in November. They didnt but looked them up I did anyways
and glad I did. Heres one reason why.
HTRK's Myspace

Heart And Soul Dub - Jah Division
I can't get enough of their Ep, Dub instrumentals of Joy Division with
the almight Kid Millions on drums, Sweet Sweet Sweet.

Sweet Little Rocker - Joe Dolan
When on a camping "Trip" in the furtherest western point on Achill Island of
Mayo, skinny dipped in the the sea the following morn, jumped straight into
the car and wrapped ourselves in sleeping bags as kev drove away and this
song came rushing out from the radiowaves. It was so cold, that it started
to snow but Joe kept us warm, good times.

O - Atombook
A joyous nostalgic alt-country ditty from South Korea, reminds me of watch
"Little Home On The Prairy" every sunday afternoon as a child. Thats a good
thing, by the way. I don't know how they only have 50 friend on their myspace,
if you like this song as much as I do, maybe add yourself to them.

You Came to Me - Beach House
Missed them last night, it was sold out but got to seen Sonic Warrior and
Deerhunter both for the third time instead. This track is taken from their
ratter beautiful but flawed second album, "Devotion". Well it was always
going to be hard to surpass or even equal their debut.
Beach House's Myspace

Maya - Incredible String Band
Still the only track I have of this crowd. 10 minutes of sitar soaked folk
brillance. Taken from there 4th album Wee Tam and the Big Huge.
Incredible String Band's Myspace

Big Jim - Ivor Cutler
Still can't get enough of Mister Cutler... "with that poignant sadness
in his voice that has all the fathers of heavily-built daughters from
Thrwn to Aberfeldd shaking in their shoes."
Ivor Cutler's Myspace

And I tagged the following fellows,
Carrie White Burns In Hell, Physics Of A Unicycle, Egoeccentric,
Kevin Roddy, A Fault Chromosone, Channel One and Simon Bookish.

Lucky Dragon - Dark Falcon 2003 (They're Giving It Away No.5)

Photobucket
Lush, ramshackled, glitchy, lofi folk pretty much sums up
Lucky Dragon schizophrenic sound. You can get their Dark
Falcon record from them and read a song by song thingameboo
in the link below too.

The Bear People - Virtual 7" (No.4)

The Virtual 7" series continuous, this time from Waterford's Dave Grimes
Aka The Bear People. I came across The Bear People on a late night
myspace leap frogging session. I was instantly hooked on ,"Farfisa and 808"
with its pounding krautrock beat and heavenly Farfisa distorts and builds
and builds up to a cosmic drone estacy that La Düsseldorf would be proud
of. The second song on the virtual 7" is Black Lodge, which Dave admitted he
thought it was a thowaway till he listened back to it a year later. Well I can't
get enough of it's eerie Beach House esque percussion what sounds like sail
bearings hitting the mast and dreamy guitar melody on top. Check out his
myspace for more deadly download. Hopeful gig promoters will eventually
cop on to him and other quality bands and artists here at home and not just
promote bands from abroad. I know I'm really looking forward to a live
outing from this stupidly talented Artist.

Awesome Color - Eyes Of Light (Duffy's Ditties No.14)

PhotobucketPhotobucket

Awesome Color must have ate their Stooges serial in the
morning. They are as raw and brutel as Iggy and Co ever
where. These freshed faced fellows are on Thurston
Moore label to which is most of the time a good thing.
They are hitting Ireland this weekend.

One Grain More - The Town Fair E.P. (They're Giving It Away No.4)

Photobucket
Sad news was transmitted over the auld wireless this evening.
"One Grain More" are no longer. I first hear them after pickin
up Havin' A Ball 7" from Road Records, hopefully more people will
now jump on their bandwagon now that the end is nigh.
They can only get more exposure in death than what they ever
got when they were hitting the hightways and byways of cruel
Britannia. I always thought they come across like a tropical Blurt.
See what you think yourself, you can download their last ever ep
for free of the main man from One Grain More own site here.

http://www.danielpatrickquinn.com/downloads.html

And/Or go down to your friendly local record shop and buy their
last album "Isle of Grain". The only regret you will have is not
buying it sooner.
