The Reason I Got Into Ivor Cutler
BBC4's wonderful and insightful documentary on the late, great Ivor Cutler; "Looking for Truth with a Pin" is now up in full on youtube.
More Ivor Cutler on this blog here.

Seven Songs Blog Chain

"List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre,
whether they have words, or even if they're not any good, but they
must be songs you're really enjoying now, shaping your spring. Post
these instructions in your blog along with your 7 songs. Then tag 7
other people to see what they're listening to."
Well the lovely folks over at ljudlandskap have kindly added me to this,
so here seven songs that I've been slowly obsessing about. I didnt
change the album names or track numbers, but preferable you would
played in the order printed.
You Injured Me - HTRK
I first heard of this aussie band when they were suppose to play with
Liars back in November. They didnt but looked them up I did anyways
and glad I did. Heres one reason why.
HTRK's Myspace
Heart And Soul Dub - Jah Division
I can't get enough of their Ep, Dub instrumentals of Joy Division with
the almight Kid Millions on drums, Sweet Sweet Sweet.

Sweet Little Rocker - Joe Dolan
When on a camping "Trip" in the furtherest western point on Achill Island of
Mayo, skinny dipped in the the sea the following morn, jumped straight into
the car and wrapped ourselves in sleeping bags as kev drove away and this
song came rushing out from the radiowaves. It was so cold, that it started
to snow but Joe kept us warm, good times.
Joe Dolan's Myspace
O - Atombook
A joyous nostalgic alt-country ditty from South Korea, reminds me of watch
"Little Home On The Prairy" every sunday afternoon as a child. Thats a good
thing, by the way. I don't know how they only have 50 friend on their myspace,
if you like this song as much as I do, maybe add yourself to them.
Atombook's Myspace
You Came to Me - Beach House
Missed them last night, it was sold out but got to seen Sonic Warrior and
Deerhunter both for the third time instead. This track is taken from their
ratter beautiful but flawed second album, "Devotion". Well it was always
going to be hard to surpass or even equal their debut.
Beach House's Myspace
Maya - Incredible String Band
Still the only track I have of this crowd. 10 minutes of sitar soaked folk
brillance. Taken from there 4th album Wee Tam and the Big Huge.
Incredible String Band's Myspace
Big Jim - Ivor Cutler
Still can't get enough of Mister Cutler... "with that poignant sadness
in his voice that has all the fathers of heavily-built daughters from
Thrwn to Aberfeldd shaking in their shoes."
Ivor Cutler's Myspace
And I tagged the following fellows,
Carrie White Burns In Hell, Physics Of A Unicycle, Egoeccentric,
Kevin Roddy, A Fault Chromosone, Channel One and Simon Bookish.

"Feel The Breeze" Mixtape

A soundtrack for runaways.
01 Knocked Up - Kings Of Leon
This song reminds me of the film "Boys Don't Cry" with
its barren dusty (sound)landscapes and The Edge-esque guitar.
Great song from an ok album by K.O.L.
02 Our Swords - Band Of Horses
More Americana(ish) this time from Band of Horses, taken
from the their exquisite debut.
03 Fiery Crash - Andrew Bird
The opener for Bird's newest and maybe best album with
backing vocals provided by the wonderful Haley Bonar
04 Brother - Annuals
"'Brother' opens on a whisper before exploding at
the halfpoint with colossal percussion, twisting
guitars, feather-fall violins, and exultant,
emphatic shouts that puncture the mix like they're
trying to break in from another dimension."
05 Saturday - Electrelane
One of the highlights from one of this years best,
"No Shouts, No Calls". Those ladies rocked out at
"Electric Picnic", Hopefully they will be back in
Ireland soon.
06 Start A War - The National
07 Keep The Car Running - Arcade Fire
08 If Looks Could Kill - Camera Obscura
09 Long Distance Call - Pheonix
10 Pulling Our Weight - The Radio Dept.
What is it about Sweden, always with "The Good Shit"
and this is certainly "Good Shit". "Pulling Our Weight"
is The Radio Dept.'s finest three and a half minutes. Pure Bliss
11 Willow's Song - The Wicker Man OST
"Willow's Song" is a ballad by American composer Paul
Giovanni using lyrics by the poet Robert Burns for the
1973 film The Wicker Man.
12 Diamond Dancer - Bill Callaghan
My favourite song of the year so far.
13 Let's Save Tony Orlando's House - Yo La Tengo
In the "Marge on the Lam" episode of The Simpsons,
Troy McClure is emceeing a public television marathon,
he opens with a version of his catchphrase by
stating: "Hi, I'm Troy McClure. You might remember
me from such telethons as Out with Gout '88 and Let's
Save Tony Orlando's House." Let's Save Tony Orlando's
House later inspired the title of this song by the Hoboken's
finest Yo La Tengo, taken from their downbeat 2000
record "And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out".
14 Cool Summer - Bob Lind
Another song I pilfered from Jarvis Cocker and Steve
Mackey compilation "The Trip"
15 Childhood - Beachhouse
One of this years gems.
16 Lark - Au Revoir Simone
Hightlight from the rather disappointing second album.
Their first should still be available here.
17 Love Connection - Casiotones For The Painfully Alone
"A delicate blend of sweat and menstrual blood"
My favourite mix.
18 After The Certain - Beirut
The great closer of his debut album.
19 In The Chestnut Tree - Ivor Cutler
Another one of my all time favourite songs, this time by the
glaswegien Ivor Cutler. Jammy Smears is still available here
20 Gulf Shores - Palace Music
"A cold and frilly drink awaits us both"
OK thats it.
Well tell me what you think.

Patrick Kelleher's Hangover Mixtape

Photo By Patrick Kelleher (Me looking worse for wears)
To celebrate Patrick Kelleher 1st Ep and tour, here is a sweet
mixtape he originally made for our friends over a Egoeccentric,
but was kind enought to throw it my way to. The tunes should
ease our heads after a hopefully fruitful weekend.
Here is what he has to say about it.

frequency of your headache, massaging you with sweet
sweet sound waves. Proggy for the first half, poppy in the
middle and a nice bit of Ivor Cutler to finish off."

03 Sailing To Byzantium - Liars

Re - Up of Ivor Cutler - Jammy Smears (1976)

The re-up continues with the wonderful Ivor Cutler who song
"Women of the World" has been cover by Jim o Rourke and
Y.A.C.H.T.
He was a poet, playwright, composer, humourist, actor (He
appeared in The Beatle's Magical Mystery Tour as the bus
conductor Buster Bloodvessel), musician, teacher and a children's
writer. His music is either silly nonsensical ramblings or works
of pure genius. I can't get enough of him, Highly
recommend.
