Children Under Hoof - Skinny Wolves Mix

A mix I made for Skinny Wolves's ongoing mix series compiled by bands that are/ have played at their shows. I asked the four other members of Children Under Hoof to give me three songs each that reflected what they think influences their input into the Hoof's "sound". I spent Saturday mixing them together with some film and TV clips, slowed down vinyl rips and songs that get me all hot and bothered.

Tracklist

Rocky Road To Dublin - The Dubliners (Clip From The 68' Documentary, "Rocky Road To Dublin" Dir. Peter Lennon)
Flowers Of Romance (Vinyl Rip @33RPM) - PIL
Weight - Thread Pulls
Oscillations - Silver Apples
Geh Duschen - Malaria!
Glue Man - Fugazi
Omar K - Rainbow Arabia
Die Slow (Pictureplane Remix){Vinyl Rip @33RPM} - HEALTH
Interdependance Dance - Adrian Orange And Her Band
Banana Republic - Boomtown Rats (Clip From Reeling In The Years 1980)

Waiting For A Train - Flash & The Pan
Everyday - Buddy Holly (Clip From The 97' Film "Gummo" Dir. Harmony Korine)
It's You - P.J. Harvey

Cluster Tonight, The Ex Tomorrow

Krautrock kings Cluster are as the poster about says; playing Dublin's Village tonight. In support of their less ambient last album "Qua" which is full of chopping and changing sonic busts with touches of their gloriously dropout grooves still in there but now luring in the back. Check out two tracks from it below, "Xanesra" with is warped out omnichord and "Na Ernel" a crazed night forrest stalking march. For an track of their 1976 Sowiesoso album get my "Night And Day" Mixtape from an age ago.

Also if that's not enough The Ex with a brass band in toe are playing the Button Factory.

Gary War Tonight

Peddler's of good taste Skinny Wolves have the uncanny ablity to bring over your new favourite band before you have even heard of them yet. Tonight is no exception with ex- Areil Pink member Gary War and his spooky disco acid brain rot vibes. He does a wonderful version of my second favourite A.P.P song; "Eye in The Sky", the first being the chopper-tastic Hyper Gamma Spaces. The support bands are not to be missed either, its going to be the first live outing for postpunk slickness; Logikparty. Alsoon the bill are two piece bundle of wonder; Girl Names. who have just recently signed to Capture Tracks, "which is nice".

Tonight Somadrone, Twinkranes, Fuck Buttons, Legion Of Two

A farewell to one of the gems in our wee islands music scene crown is heading off to to San Fran, taken his space echoing oscillations with him. The vid below is a solo outing at this year DEAF, but tonight he will be join live with two other members of the long gone but still loved Connect Four Orchestra.

Somadrone - Secton Six.mp3 (Taken from “Lets Depart” 10″ E.P – 2001 )
Somadrone - Trail For A Trial.mp3 (Taken from "Fuzzing Away To A Whisper" LP - 2005)
Also on the bill is three piece Krautrock Revivalist Twinkranes and who have just released a great record on Twisted Nerve.

And if you can still rock on after that there is this afterwards.

After hearing new songs like "Flight Of The Feathered Serpent" and "Space Mountain" which sound like modern unoffensive tv idents music, for me Fuck Buttons have lost their edgy charm. The first album was more than just a homage exercise to Eno and Bryne's 81 masterpiece, it genuinely sounded dangerous, exciting and even new but now I wouldn't be surprise if "Olympians" (the most skippable track on "Tarot Sports") is used over rubbish tv sport montages. But it will be worth going to hear songs of their first album and the schizo disco epic that is "Surf Solar" of the new one and Legion Of Two in support also

Live Film Score Show At The Box Social, Sat. Dec. 12th Boys Of Summer, John Purcell etc

Live Film Score Show

Boys Of Summer featuring A.Fogarty (Toymonger / Weil Rats), I.Pawle (Sea Dog / Scented Candle) & PG Smyth (Jimmy Cake) unleash a unrelentless barrage of sweet disco analog drone swells. They return to the Box Social after one of the most intense show I've seen this year. I overheard one punter after that "Cannibal Holocaust" score show saying "It was like getting hit over the head by a cancerous penis", quality.

John Purcell is a Dublin-based musician who uses guitar, synthesiser, voice, field recordings, and effects to create dense layers of lush ambient sound.
