Ducktails - Backyard (Duffy's Ditties No. 18)

It's hard to keep your feet on the ground listening to his hazy helium, late summer love guitar groove, taken from Ducktails "Ducktails II" LP. He has just put out a new 7" which contains my new favouite song of his, "Point Pleasant Beach", both are available to buy through Ducktails Myspace.

Awesome Color - Eyes Of Light (Duffy's Ditties No.14)

PhotobucketPhotobucket

Awesome Color must have ate their Stooges serial in the
morning. They are as raw and brutel as Iggy and Co ever
where. These freshed faced fellows are on Thurston
Moore label to which is most of the time a good thing.
They are hitting Ireland this weekend.

Patrick Kelleher - Coat To Wear (Duffy's Ditties No.12)

As the tag says Ethereal Dream Pop from Patrick Kelleher
accompanied by wonderful super 8 video. Coat To Wear
bounces around the stereo like a malevolence spawn of
Shockheaded Peters and Kate Bush. Taken from his excellent
6 track EP "You Look Cold". With only 75 numbered hand
cut and hand glued cdr made they are sure to be snapped
up quickly. Available from Road Records or though his
myspace, I think for the pauperly price of €5. Or
alternatively you can pick it up if you catch him playing a
stripped down show tomorrow night with his backing band
"The Wet Dreams" at The Bernard Shaws on Richmond St.
Portobello, where he will be unleashing new material or
Supporting God Is An Astronaut in a brand spanking new
theatre in Greystone on Saturday the 7th of June.

Scarlett Johansson - "Fannin' Street" & "Song For Jo" (Duffy's Ditties No. 8 & No.9)

Photobucket
As yr one says "Fuck all you hates". Miss Johansson new album
is pretty great. Ok it's got a couple of well ropey songs on it.
The title track "Anywhere I Lay My Head" being the worse
of the bunch and it was the first to be leaked for some reason.
But the majority of the tracks are great, two of which are
top notch. One, being the only song that's not a Waits Cover
"Song For Jo" is one of the best song on here. Johansson co-wrote
it with TV On The Radio's David Andrew Sitek, the album's
producer. It sounds like a long lost Red House Painters track.
The other being Johansson's cover of "Fannin' Street" which is
just as spell bounding with David Bowie adding backing yells to
the proceedings. Originally "Fannin' Street" reared its head on
Waits "Orphans" release, the 3cd rarities album that came out
last year. With the help of her talented friends Johansson has
made an album thats much better than it should ever be.

Brian Eno & David Byrne - Mea Culpa (Duffy's Ditties No.6 )

Looks like a reunion is on the card for a group that sounds as fresh
as they did when their only album together came out in 81, Fuck
Buttons were certainly taking notes. Great video done by Bruce
Conner, the same artist who did the Mongoloid Video for Devo.

Aidan John Moffat - Hilary And Back (Duffy's Ditties No.3)

Photobucket
A 10 minute short story from Arap Strap's Aidan John
Moffat of his brill new album. Here's a live vid for
a different song from "I Can Hear Your Heart". Good
to see somebody else digs the cheapo Bontempi Organs.
I have two and a shitty broken drum machine by the
Italian company. They're crap but in a good way.

Japan - Ghosts (Duffy's Ditties No.1)

Japan-Ghosts
Experimental pop music at its best . From the year of my birth,
"Ghost" was Japans biggest hit, but they still broke up a
couple of weeks after its release. Singer David Sylvian later
when on to to albums with Holger Czukay and Robert Fripp.
Check out the outstanding live vid below from Old Grey Whistle
Test.
