Yawning Chasm
Tomorrow night in anseo, a rare dublin show from Galways native Aaron M. Coyne aka Yawning Chasm. His "The Shadow is That Hidden" EP was one of the best releases I heard last year. Those songs have laid me down into my leaba and gently let the night come in countless times. Truly majestic stuff. Half of the EP can be listened to below.
Live Aaron as recruited DeclanQKelly to beef up the sound, adding some "shoegazey guitar" to the mix. Yawning Chasm is certainly up there with Porn On Vinyl, Patrick Kelleher, Jennifer Evans, Sea Pinks and Katie Kim in the vangaurd of interesting and sincere music coming out of our wee isle.
More info on the gig here.

RHINO MAGIC - GET GOING Album Launch Friday 10th of June
///RHINO MAGIC\\\
Fuzzed up laments from the wilds of Wexford, Rhino Magic is Joseph Kielthy recording sounds from keyboards, guitars and the world onto a laptop which is prone to overheating. "Get Going" is a nine song album full of joyous distorted pastel pop. It's the soundtrack to a found hi8 video of a tenth birthday party. Fizzing coke and tayto burps, never ending hazy adventures in roaming sun drenched fields till "the mother" calls everyone in for cake cutting and more coke.

Though there's a tropical breeze that floats through proceedings, it swirls around what is definitely a dark heart of the jungle. Fuzzy vocals and a whole curiosity museum of instrumentation are all good and well, but the songwriting is completely effortless and witty to the max - Rough Trade

"Aidan Wall, a man forcing dreams into mp3 files via the kindly intercession of a nylon-string guitar, his voice and smothering layers of lo-fi fuzz of more the Daniel Johnston variety than, say, the Wavves variety. In ebbs and swells, Wall provides moods that vary from cosy reassurance to panic-attack unease, all with the same, utterly minimal set-up." - Those Geese Were Stupefied

How To Dress Well - Suicide Dream 1&2
Nightvisions of angels, in silhouette. Peaking lights flashing from behind. Speakers explode with the heavenly howls as they descends. Everything else around falls in on its self. Chest heavy now then light as you fall fast. Faster and faster. The bedroom floor no longer there to break the momentum. Faster and faster. Stratosphering with out care.
How To Dress Well has made an album that is truly astonishing, once (if) you (can) get passed all the distortion clipping.
I picked up the Tri Angle's re-release of Love Remains LP here, since my local record shop couldnt order it got some reason.

Princess Dies & Light Asylum
Princess DIES; a great cosmic abrasions group consisting of Bruno Coviello (Light Asylum) and Ashby Lee Collinson. Less Yazoo steeped dark pop drones than Coviello's other exceptional group but equally as engaging.

New Peaking Lights
New grooves from two piece Peaking Lights. "All The Sun That Shines" is "positive dub", fun and crispier sounding compared to their debut LP on Night People Records,
Their second album "936" is out today on Not Not Fun and hopefully it lives up to their debut album whch was one of favourite albums of 09'.
Also there is a really great, insightful video Peaking Lights on VBS. which shows how they creating their spaced out sounds circuit bending toy keyboards,fm radios, broken pedals and whatever Aaron can find in thrift stores.
