Imagination - So Good, So Right

Three piece from London throw down some spell bounding house grooves over sultry soprano vocals. Take from Imagination's debut LP "Body Talk" (1981).

Karen Dalton

Here's some Karen Dalton film footage I hadn't seen before. It's great to she her in action, Karen was one of the truly powerful and honest voices from the late 60's. early 70's American folk scene. I first heard of her through the rousing cover The Drones did of "Are You Leaving For The Country". I picked up her "In My Own Time" album soon after which is well worth seeking out.

Another great vid after the jump.

Pink Flamingos At The Screen Tomorrow Night

I had the (un)pleasure of seeing Pink Flamingos for the time earlier in the year, on a big projected screen in my lady friend house. John Water's 72' debut is trashy, crass and still surprisingly shocking 38 years on. As a part of their "Screen Classics Series", the Screen Cinema on D'Olier Street are showing Pink Flamingos tomorrow night. Don't be out "bee hived" by fellow trash dilettante's at the screening, handbags & glad rags are essential.
A poor quality clip for the "Steak Steeling" scene below.

Cher - Gypsys Tramps And Thieves

The first single from Cher's 1971 self-titled album Cher, which was later renamed and re-released as Gypsys Tramps And Thieves after the success of the single. One of pops finist hits and they certainly don't write them like that anymore.

Pictureplane - Gothstar

At Foggy Notions's Foggy Jam a couple of week back, for me HEALTH's cover of Pictureplane's "Gothstar" was easily the highlight of the night (although I did only catch the last three bands). "Gothstar" contains a neat Fleetwood Mac sample which is cut and cropped, tumbles drunkenly along giving the song an almost exhausted energy, sun stroked and buzzy. Is and along with the accompanied vhs alchemy ritual video, it's hard not to fall for it's charms.

I included a vinyl rip of Pictureplane's remix of HEALTH's "Die Slow" song at 33rpm in a Children Under Hoof Mixtape here, which sounds the "right" speed to these humble ears anyways.

(Retards) Discography - They're Giving It Away No.21

Defunct Irish no wave noise merchant; (Retards) have kindly put up their back catalogue up on bandcamp. Some of their discography is a little too self aware and self-consciously weird for me but they still could bang out a tune if and when they wanted to, Check out the links below.

I Miss Renting Videos

This trailer was at the start of a lot of Tartan Video's releases in the mid 90s. I most have watched it over hundred times and it single handedly got me into African music with Zimbabwean Bhundu Boys song "My Foolish Heart" accompanying it. Tartan went bust in 2008 but during their twenty four years they certainly opened my eyes to some of the best films, world cinema had to offer.
"My Foolish Heart" was included in the January Blues Mixtape from many moons ago.
