Thieves Like Us - Desire

Like all their vids, this one for Desire is a cut up of an 80's classic film. In this case it's Jean-Jacques Beineix's Diva.
The song which I can't get out of my wee head, is from their new album which is out Nov 07/08 and by all a counts, should be rightous. But in the mean time here's a hearthy song from their last EP and a sweet 7 minuter for good measure .

Also there is a link to another Thieves Like Us Video , the song named after and vid clip is of another Jean-Jacques Beineix film, this time Moon In The Gutter.

"How _____ Got His/Her Groove Back" Mixtape

Photobucket
An oldie but a goodie.
01 Baby Blue - The Warlocks
Named after the origInal name of The Grateful Dead.
I seen them back in 2001, thought the 2 drummer thing
was lame. A year later I picked up their record in the
discount bin, glad I did.
02 London - Noonday Underground

03 Being Followed - Rocket Science

04 Thinking of a Dream I Had - The Walkmen
To me The Walkmen sound like what Phython Lee
Jackson would sound like if they were from 2004.
05 Heartbeat - The Knife

06 Running Up The Hill - Kate Bush

07 Powered Wig Machine - Desert Sessions
Taken from 9/10 with Polly Jean on joint vocal chores.
08 Take Off Your Cool - Outcast (Feat. Norah Jones)
Get your on on.
09 Get Into The Groovey - Ciccone Youth
Sweet sweet cover from Sonic Youth's evil twin.
10 Sex Is Violent - Jane's Addiction and Diamanda Galas
Taken from the outstanding Natural Born Killers Soundtrack.
11 Dance Of The Underground - Radio4
12 Out Of The Races And Onto The Tracks - The Rapture
First song I got of them and probably still the best song for them,
didnt even bother with the album after Echos.
13 What We All Want (Live)- Gang Of Four

14 Eisbar - Grauzone

So good I made a t shirt of the cover of the single.
15 Pas A Pas, Step Until - Fly Pan AM
Taken from their third studio album N'écoutez pas. I had the
plessure of seen this Québécois band before the split up.
It a one rouckous riot.
16 Theres Always Room On The Broom - Liars

17 Triumph Of A Heart - Bjork

19 Peach, Plum, Pear - Joanna Newsom

20 The Dead Only Quickly - The 6ths

Ducktails - Backyard (Duffy's Ditties No. 18)

It's hard to keep your feet on the ground listening to his hazy helium, late summer love guitar groove, taken from Ducktails "Ducktails II" LP. He has just put out a new 7" which contains my new favouite song of his, "Point Pleasant Beach", both are available to buy through Ducktails Myspace.

Keyboard Demo of the Week No. 01

The first in a series of cheesey automatic keyboard demos, a little beaut from 88' the sampling Yamaha VSS 200 with "Pascals Country Sounds" sample. The tune itself like most keyboard demos goes through the spectum of sounds the machine has the offer, like YMO doing a medley of their "Greatest Hits" in 2 minutes.

New Australian Noise: Fabulous Diamonds, Naked On The Vague, HTRK, Lakes And Inverted Crux and Pissypaw.

Some great Australian band have come under my radar recently, Fabulous Diamonds debut LP is top class trance rock which conjours up campfire chants over tom tom banging that keeps you locked tight in it's power thoughout it's brief but brillant 7 song debut.

Fabulous Diamonds - LP6 MP3

Another two piece but with more DNA in their blood than Fabulous Diamonds.
Naked On The Vague - All Aboard MP3

Another obsession from dark side of the bush. You can catch them supporting the over overrated Shellac at The Button Factory, Dublin on the 28th of October.
