Nouveaunoise - Panaka EP (They're Giving It Away No.22)

New free two song single (EP) from "Wayssst" of Ireland duo; Nouveaunoise. Jazzy summer noise pop akin to sweet blissful heights The Go Team and Pause era Fourtet. Terrible interview below (Silly presenters) plus live performance of Pyschasonic on Panaka EP.

See them live in Whelans this Friday as part of Concern Fastival with The Jimmy Cake, Patrick Kelleher & His Cold Dead Hands and Clockwork Orange

(Retards) Discography - They're Giving It Away No.21

Defunct Irish no wave noise merchant; (Retards) have kindly put up their back catalogue up on bandcamp. Some of their discography is a little too self aware and self-consciously weird for me but they still could bang out a tune if and when they wanted to, Check out the links below.

Cosmic Charlie - The Invisible College (They're Giving It Away No.19)

"Smoked out child star tape anthems, songs to hold his hand too".
"This is Cosmic Charlie 11 in a series of 25 tapes made to be the secret soundtracks to my summer of love... music for brotherless children."
"PROOF A BOY CAN BE A SIREN TOO" - Thurston Moore
More joyous fuzz ambientance from a truly wonderful label "Night People Records". Cosmic Charlie is a one man tape jams, thats part D. Johnston, part C. Manson. He mostly goes by the name The Savage Young Taterbug and has a super sweet tape out under that moniker.

The Caretaker - A Stairway To The Stars (2001) [They're Giving It Away No.18]

"The Caretaker project began in late 1996, undoubtedly inspired from the ballroom scene in Stanley Kubrick's "Shining". The first release played and extended this theme of altering 1920's and 1930's ballroom music creating an eerie and haunted soundworld. Subsequently the sound has become darker and often more abstract over time, moving away from the initial idea of a haunted ballroom into territories involving the mind and its abilities to recall memories." - Last FM

As expected from anything connected to Vvm, its slowed down and full of ring mod. On recent trip to "festering fescos", they turned a mundane outing into a magic carpet ride, full of wonder, dread and toilet cleaner. You can get it for free from Vvm test recordings site below. Wonderful stuff indeed.

Fungi Girls - Psilo Demo EP (They're Giving It Away No.17)

Lofi suger rush garage jams recorded on a digital camera by a trio of "High School Kids" from Texas. The last three songs are particularly rightous and rockous. A Faulty Chromosome - Our Druthers Is To Be Smothered Under 120-Thread Count Covers! (They're Giving It Away No. 16)

Not only have A Faulty Chromosome made my favourite album of last year, now they have made the best "covers" album I've heard in recent memory. Five Magnetic Fields covers three of which are from the "House Of Tomorrow" EP and a amazing cover of a song from a band called Triple Fast Action who I never heard before. Best of all is the cover of Arthur Russell's "Arm Around You". The Ruby Suns have also covered this song, but by their owe admission, it's very similer to the orginal. Hear The Ruby Suns - Arm Around You Here. The A Faulty Chromosome version flitters and sways you around and around, its dark so dark in fact but still has hope, I supposts thats what draw me into Arthur Russell's music in the first place.
Here's a vid for one of the Magnetic Fields songs covered.

Peek! An earful of Irish Underground (They're Giving It Away No.12 )

Heres a 11 track compilation given away with the new Analogue Magazine. "Underground" maybe not since the majority of side a is bright bubbly pop. It does contain some wonderful new Irish music and this cd/vinyl is shining a light on a lot of bands/Artist that are unknown even in their hometowns, so maybe it is underground. Dont be put of by the first track, Supernova Scotia and Gran Casino are super and Pascal's Country Sounds regulars Patrick Kelleher and Hunter-Gatherer beef it up.

Side A
The High Life - Ugly Megan
Ballet Shoes - Grand Pocket Orchestra
Capogg - Supernova Scotia
The Last Bottle in the World - Dublin Duck Dispensary

Coat to Wear - Patrick Kelleher
Radio - Katie Kim

Jimmy Behan - In the Sudden Distance EP (They're Giving It Away No. 9)

Photobucket
Delicate haunty chimes ring out above your pillowed young head. In bed, waiting for your parents to drive back in the dark. Each passing car's headlines leaving douglas furs trances on the wall. You think something could have happened in the dark snow, leaving you and your bother behind. But they come back, safe. Door a jar, "Just checking to see if your asleep".
Another amazing release which is available for free from the artist themselves.

Sarsparilla - Day Rider (They're Giving It Away No.8)

Photobucket
30 minutes of tip top electronia from Sarsparilla.
Day Rider comes across like a joyous Harmonia played at
the wrong speed with Carpenter throwing down wave
after wave of drowning synth intercut with snippets from
Trading Places, Bullseye and The Last Dragon.

Download Day Rider for free from the lovely Alphabet Set
Records who are always reliable for kickin out a descent tune
or two. Just click on the Day Rider image in the Alphabet Set

Applied Communications - Heavenly Gospel (They're Giving It Away No. 7)

Photobucket
So I started to uses my Last FM account after a friend
told what the dealio was with it. The first great
find is Applied Communications. A band of "weird
allusions to masturbation and hypertext markup language".
Emperor X style of sound collage american indie with
casiotones and shout shout dairy entries. Sweet.

Daily Misconceptions - If I Hug Your Sweaters Will They Get Their Colour Back? EP (They're Giving It Away, No.6)

Photobucket
Daily Misconceptions have made a collection
of sweet delicate electronica. The one man band
from Portugal is culled from the same herd as
Sigur Ros and their voice sampling ways and
Mum's glitchy glitch with a pinch of accordion to
soothe away any woes.

Download If I Hug... EP from their record label here

Lucky Dragon - Dark Falcon 2003 (They're Giving It Away No.5)

Lush, ramshackled, glitchy, lofi folk pretty much sums up
Lucky Dragon schizophrenic sound. You can get their Dark
Falcon record from them and read a song by song thingameboo
in the link below too.

One Grain More - The Town Fair E.P. (They're Giving It Away No.4)

Photobucket
Sad news was transmitted over the auld wireless this evening.
"One Grain More" are no longer. I first hear them after pickin
up Havin' A Ball 7" from Road Records, hopefully more people will
now jump on their bandwagon now that the end is nigh.
They can only get more exposure in death than what they ever
got when they were hitting the hightways and byways of cruel
Britannia. I always thought they come across like a tropical Blurt.
See what you think yourself, you can download their last ever ep
for free of the main man from One Grain More own site here.

And/Or go down to your friendly local record shop and buy their
last album "Isle of Grain". The only regret you will have is not
buying it sooner.
